About 2024
It's at this point you probably think we make these statements up, and yes it would be easy to do this and mislead you. But we are proud that the feedback we have from our staff is widely very supportive of what we do and the place people work at is a place they don't begrudge coming to. It can be really hard making a work place as comfortable as your home and we probably never will be able too. Our staff are kind, courageous, caring and above all are willing to give their time to help the lives of those less fortunate to be a little less dark. You don't just work in social care, it finds you and then it puts you on a path you never saw yourself walking on.
Avondalecare Kent Ltd take your pathway seriously. In our residential service we expect to meet people from all walks of life, we work with people facing their own challenges who bring their own experiences to the team, we meet people who enjoy coming to work as a safe place to be and to feel a part of something.
When looking for a new career, look inward first and see what inner skills you have that you cant fit onto a standard CV; these are the set of skills we would employ you for.
Our leaders take pride in leading the teams from the back, we already pave a comfortable path ahead and now support everyone from the dangers which come from behind us. This way of working has been long taught through our line of leadership at Avondalecare. We are always looking for compassionate people who want to give their time to make a difference. Are you ready for a better work life balance. A work opportunity to test your inner skills and to have a reason to hit that alarm clock off every day.
Our year in 2024 has been a good year. We have made many smiles across the year and have been able to help people in all different areas of their lives. We have had our struggles this year again in various areas but we overcome these. Staff challenges within the sector remain a challenge, but we are lucky to have built on a great team who have retained their positions within the company and are thriving in their roles.
This year the service will see a new focus on Star Achievements through planning and Creativity. The new achievement and reward system has been developed by the service Director who has cleverly merged the service outcomes with peoples achievements. The new resources enable all the staff to have an opportunity to listen more and to focus on counsel supporting those we care for.
Achieving a ribbon for each of the Star Focuses enables the person to be able to see their achievements through recognition.

Understand what it takes to be a great key worker at Avondale Residential Care today
It cant be just a job, it has to be more than that.
Working at Avondalecare as a residential key worker is versatile and rewarding, but what is expected from you in a role like this?
The small print
1. Personal care
All of our residents require a measure of personal care during their day. This support can be helping to manage incontinence, prompting to help with bathing showering and managing and administering medications and creams.
2. Financial support
Our residents are all deemed to have capacity and can make decisions themselves, but sometimes these decisions can be risky and will require support with help to keep their financial health in good order.
3. Out and about activities
Going out on activities by bus, taxi or staff driving is very important to our residents, we like to plan ahead and create activity plans so everyone has their needs met and can enjoy time away from the care home.
4. Home help activities
At the home you will be required to help with shopping, cooking, keeping the home cleaned, tidy and organised, you will report concerns or support needs to a senior to review care plans and continue looking for better standards of care always.
5. Mental health kindness
Our residents do live with mental health, at any time through the day the person will require a level of support from you. This support will be evidenced on treatment logs and shared with the team. 1:1 support is needed throughout the day
6. Learning difficulty support and understanding
You may be working with someone with learning difficulties, supporting a person in line with their care plan to encourage good days, reduces aggressive outbursts; ensuring all needs are met is fundamental to the person being happy at home.
7. Autism awareness and creative support
Understanding how to work with different people is key to getting the best outcomes we can, autism is a diagnosis which will need you to work consistently with this person and meet their needs as they wish.
8. Risk Management and safe practices
Working with different people in the care home does come with risk and these assessments are clear and shared with all staff. Always follow risk assessments for safe practices. Make sure your safety is thought of first always.
9. Seasonal wellness activities
Seasonal activities keep the person involved in the events which everyone follows throughout the year, helping people to be a part of society from within their home is very important. Finding enjoyment in the small things.
10. Social support and appointment attendance.
As a key worker you will be supporting people to attend all physical and mental appointments to ensure their care is managed and supported by outside agencies as it should be. Always document outcomes on treatment logs.
Have you done shift work before?
All care homes do shift work similar to many other industries where support is required for the business throughout the entire day. Working at Avondalecare is no different, we support people throughout the day and at times there is support required throughout the twilight hours of the night. When you enquire about a role working with us ask for an example of the shift pattern to see if this fits in with your lifestyle. Applying to work in care will more than likely always require shift work to be undertaken.
At Avondalecare you are paid for every hour you work; not just a proportion unless you are on call. You are required to complete all tasks and then make use of the staff room to rest whilst on call during a wake night shift, Its important that you are able to carry out good concise and clear report writing and evidencing of all support throughout the day and night shifts. Working a 40hr week does also mean that you are able to have a three days a week off as the shift patterns are 10hr shifts.
The care home does not make use of agency staff due to lack of understanding our resident needs and the ability for all staff to be able to earn overtime. This is important to all our staff who look to make a career in social care.
Any further questions you have regarding the role as a support worker or key worker before you apply, please feel free to email dani.huckstep@avondalecare.co.uk we will come back to you with answers to your questions before you apply for a position.
Welcoming to the team; our new bank workers here to help with additional care and support across the day always adding to increase quality of care for all.
